Photoshop Elements 8.0 has an expansive feature set that allows you to easily learn how to use this tool and apply the tools to the various editing tasks. With just a few simple steps, you can achieve impressive results.
In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to create some simple graphic designs with Photoshop Elements. I show you how to create an image of multiple layers to enhance the effect and set the text using the type tool.
Preparing to Work
To create a great image with Photoshop Elements, I recommend having at least two things to work with:
• A duplicate layer set with one of the background colors to serve as an overlay. I use Black for this layer.
• A new layer on which to apply the effects and add color. For this layer, I use Green.
Creating a Simple Image
Start by opening Photoshop Elements and creating a new file. I set the size to 300 x 200 pixels.
To create a new document in Photoshop Elements, click the New button (a plus sign, or +) on the Home tab, shown in Figure 3-1.

You’ll find the New Document window below the Photoshop Elements workspace, shown in Figure 3-2. Here you can resize your document, add document or image-components such as frames and more, create and edit layers, and find more file-saving options. I prefer to create new documents right away and save them in a suitable location.

Photoshop Elements adds the background image in the background layer and saves your document.
After you place your cursor in the New Document window, click the small drop-down arrow on the top-right side of the window to change to the Welcome to Photoshop Elements screen shown in Figure 3-3.
